Peppercorn Harvest and Post-Harvest Management Training Workshop, Vietnam

A virtual workshop on harvest and post-harvest management of pepper was delivered by Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI) experts on 9th March 2023
WASI experts (Dr Hoa and Dr Ha Tran) held a Zoom workshop on the harvest and post-harvest management of pepper for participants from STDF Safer Spice partner countries (Cambodia and Lao PDR).

The workshop was facilitated by CABI and attended by 11 participants whose on-going work in the project makes the workshop content particularly relevant. The content of the workshop was drawn from the experience of peppercorn production in Vietnam where Vietnam is the top producer and exporter of pepper worldwide.

The content of the workshop was delivered under 4 sections under 'Management of harvesting and pre-processing, and storage':

  1. Harvesting pepper fruits
  2. Post-harvesting of pepper fruits
  3. Peppercorn storage
  4. Strategies to avoid chemical/biochemical and physical hazard

Related literature on pre and post harvest factors affecting quality and safety of pepper is also included by the presenters for reference.
