Safer spice - food safety and market access for peppercorn
STDF team visits the Safer Spices project and attends the project steering committee meeting, Dak Lak, Vietnam

The Project Steering Committee meeting was held in Dak Lak province, Vietnam with the participation of 2 STDF members (Ms. Roshan Saeed Khan and Ms. Paola Michelutti), 2 CABI members (Mr. Muhammad Faheem and Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan), 2 members of Cambodia (Mr. Chhuhy Heng and Mr. Rambo Mao), 2 members of Laos (Mr. Souliya Souvandouane and Mr. Phoumee Kanya) and members of WASI, Vietnam (Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, Ms. Trinh Thi Huong, Mr. Le Thua Hoai Son, Ms. Tran Thi Thuong, Mr. Do Van Chung and Mr. Dinh Van Phe).
On October 26, 2022 Mr. Phan Viet Ha, vice president of WASI, gave his welcoming speech to open the meeting. After that, Mr. Le Dang Khoa introduced WASI to the entire conference after which Mr. Faheem gave a presentation on the overview and objectives of the project. On behalf of STDF, Ms. Roshan Saeed Khan gave a speech on the overview of Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF).

Mr. Faheem presented a report on progress made in Code of Practice (COP) and Participatory Guarantee Scheme (PGS) activities while Mr. Chan Fook Wing talked about communication and visibility for the project activities.

Ms. Suzanne Neave then conducted an online presentation on dialogue and engagement of farmer groups and companies in COP implementation through PGS. Following that, representatives of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos presented country progress updates and plans. The whole conference discussed enthusiastically on the contents of the program.

On the morning of October 27, 2022, the entire delegation went to meet farmers and visited pepper farms to discuss pepper models applying CoP and PGS practices. Also in the morning, STDF's secretary conducted interviews with farmers implementing the model alongside representatives of CABI, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. In the afternoon, the delegation meet with Simexco company representatives in Buon Ma Thuot city to discuss the implementation of project activities in the field and future perspectives.

On the last day, the meeting concluded with discussions on feedback, team networking, and way forward. After 3 days of hard work, the project steering committee meeting ended successfully.
