Safer spice - food safety and market access for peppercorn
Project inception meeting
Date: 17th Dec 2020
The inception meeting was held virtually via Zoom on 20th December, 2020 due to the on-going pandemic. The meeting comprised of six sessions over three hours. A total of 38 participants attended the virtual meeting which was hosted and facilitated by CABI.
The objectives of the workshop were:
  • Understand the global overview of spices and peppercorn industry
  • Discuss the on-going policy and strategy of the government of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos PDR for the development of peppercorn value chains
  • Understand the industry perspective related to SPS issues and market access
  • Understand the development of Code of Practice and its implementation through PGS models and
  • Solicit feedback from policymakers, experts and other stakeholders

Several presentations by donors and project partners on their respective organisations, overarching themes that the project will address, project overview covering objectives, approaches and deliverables, background to the peppercorn and spice industry, developments of peppercorn in implementing countries and Codex standards for food safety and market access.
