PGS training, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, Vietnam

PGS national consultant, Ino Mayu, and WASI staff, Mr. Son, provided training to introduce Participatory Guarantee Scheme (PGS) to Xuyen Moc Plant Protection Department staffs (Ms. Hang and Ms. Nhung), Vietpepper company (Mr. Nam), and farmer group (those who participated in pilot CoP, 20 farmers) in Bau Lam commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province.
The training was conducted at Bau Lam culture center hall, Bau Lam commune, Xyen Moc district. Contents of the training include SWOT analysis, buyer and seller understanding, benefits of the PGS approach, structure, functions, principles of PGS, how PGS works, case studies from Solomon Islands, shared vision for the future, and farmer to farmer learning through field visits.
The participants of the training including farmers, commune authority, PPD staff, WASI staff, and Vietpepper staff worked very closely together and enjoyed learning and sharing experiences with each other. The participants understood the benefits of being in a group; sharing experiences about technical issues, production following similar standards to achieve good quality products, and collective selling to obtain more bargaining power.
