Prevention and Control

Prevention

  • Maintain recommended shade levels
  • Remove weeds completely 2 feet around the pepper vine
  • Slash the weeds in rest of the field
  • Vigorous plants can tolerate relatively high numbers of lace bugs, so apply proper fertilization, don’t overuse nitrogen
  • Conserve natural enemies, e.g. avoid spraying broad spectrum pesticides

Monitoring

  • Observe mature plants regularly for following symptoms - Brown colour irregular spots on the leaf and immature spikes. Unfilled seeds in damaged spikes. Damaged spikes become dry and fallen

Direct control

  • Hand pick the adult bugs and destroy
  • Spray Neem Seed Kernel Extract. soak 50g crushed seeds with 01 lit: of water for 24 hrs, dilute 1:5 and spray
